Prof. Michael Sung is a globally recognized technology venture builder and fintech advisor with extensive experience across digital finance, blockchain, AI, and semiconductor industries. He is the Chairman of CarbonBlue Innovations, a holding company focused on cross-border tech transfer and digital finance ventures, and also chairs HorizenDigital, which drives blockchain adoption for institutions and developing markets. His work spans entrepreneurship, investment, and advisory across cutting-edge technologies shaping the financial future.
Prof. Sung plays a critical policy advisory role in the digital economy, working closely with major regulatory bodies including the People’s Bank of China (PBOC), Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA), and the Bank for International Settlements (BIS). He currently leads key initiatives as Chief Scientist at the Frontier Institute for Regtech and heads a Real World Assets innovation center at the Chinese Academy of Sciences. His expertise spans central bank digital currencies (CBDCs), institutional DeFi, tokenized assets, and ESG-linked digital securities.
In academia, Prof. Sung is the founding Director of the Institute of Digital Finance Innovation at Zhejiang International Business School and faculty at HKUST, where he teaches on entrepreneurship and technology commercialization. A graduate of MIT with a Ph.D. in EECS and a financial engineering degree from Sloan, he is a frequent speaker at global forums including the UN, Vatican, and Money20/20, and contributes to international policy development on fintech, digital assets, and sustainable finance.
