Prof. Michael Sung is a globally recognised technology venture builder and digital finance advisor with deep expertise across fintech, blockchain, artificial intelligence and semiconductor innovation. His work spans entrepreneurship, institutional advisory and venture development at the intersection of financial infrastructure and emerging technologies.
He serves as Chairman of CarbonBlue Innovations, a holding company focused on cross-border technology transfer and digital finance ventures, and as Chairman of HorizenDigital, which advances institutional blockchain adoption across developed and emerging markets. His leadership experience encompasses venture incubation, capital structuring and strategic advisory across next-generation financial platforms.
Prof. Sung plays an active policy advisory role within the global digital economy. He has worked closely with leading regulatory institutions including the People’s Bank of China (PBOC), the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) and the Bank for International Settlements (BIS). He currently serves as Chief Scientist at the Frontier Institute for Regtech and leads a Real World Assets innovation centre at the Chinese Academy of Sciences. His expertise includes central bank digital currencies (CBDCs), institutional decentralised finance, tokenised assets and ESG-linked digital securities.
In academia, Prof. Sung is the Founding Director of the Institute of Digital Finance Innovation at Zhejiang International Business School and serves on faculty at HKUST, where he teaches entrepreneurship and technology commercialisation. He holds a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from MIT and a financial engineering qualification from MIT Sloan.
A frequent speaker at global forums including the United Nations, the Vatican and Money20/20, he contributes actively to international policy development across fintech, digital assets and sustainable finance.
